HikeWest’s new Strategic Plan, released in July 2026, builds on our commitment to see more people hiking in Western Australia more often. It sets out the hiking peak body’s strategic priorities for the next few years to 2029, focusing on:
- hiking participation growth and opportunity – through delivery of programs and events; building hiking awareness; and supporting and growing membership;
- advocacy for bushwalking spaces – including for new trails development and for effective state custodianship of our hiking environment;
- organisational growth and sustainability – focusing on growing and diversifying the funding base and expanding the capacity and capability of the HikeWest team.
The plan outlines the specific initiatives that will enable the organisation to effectively implement those priorities and achieve our mission of encouraging and supporting more people to pursue health and happiness by hiking in nature.
The strategies in the Plan have been developed with the objectives of the WA Hiking Strategy 2020–30 in mind. These recognise that although hiking is a popular activity and we have many great trails in Western Australia, there is much more we can do to increase hiking participation.
By prioritising participation, advocacy, and organisational growth and sustainability, HikeWest is committed to fostering a thriving WA hiking community that values the natural environment and enjoys safe and responsible bushwalking.
