Volunteer Treasurer wanted: Join the HikeWest Board

Are you a skilled accountant or financial manager who loves the outdoors? HikeWest, the peak body for hiking in Western Australia, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Volunteer Treasurer to join our Board. HikeWest champions health, wellbeing and connection through hiking, because we believe that hiking is for everyone. We are committed to sharing our knowledge about hiking and encouraging respect for our natural environment.

As Treasurer, you’ll play a vital role in securing HikeWest’s financial stability, allowing us to continue supporting bushwalking clubs and advocating on behalf of all hikers in Western Australia.

This is a great opportunity to make a significant contribution to the hiking community, and to gain valuable experience in nonprofit financial management and governance.

The Role

As a key member of the HikeWest Board, the Volunteer Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the organisation’s financial health and ensuring responsible stewardship of our resources. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute your skills to a cause you care about and make a real difference in the WA hiking community.

Accountabilities include:

  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant financial regulations and reporting requirements (e.g., ATO, ACNC).
  • Overseeing the annual audit process.
  • Presenting financial updates and insights at quarterly Board meetings.
  • Advising the Board on financial matters and potential risks.
  • Advising the Board on financial and fundraising strategies
  • Support with long-term financial management

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in financial management and reporting.
  • Experience in financial strategy development.
  • Strong understanding of financial principles and practices.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly and concisely.
  • Familiarity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) regulations.

Commitment required

  • The estimated time commitment is approximately 2–3 hours per week, with additional time during busy periods.
  • Attendance at quarterly Board meetings (evenings) is required.
