State Government recognition of HikeWest!

HikeWest is delighted to have been formally recognised this week (on 17 August 2022) as the pre-eminent representative organisation for hiking in Western Australia. HikeWest is one of only two applicant organisations so far recognised by the WA State Government under the new State Active Recreation Organisation (‘SARO’) framework administered by DLGSC.

The Minister for Sport and Recreation, the Hon David Templeman has congratulated HikeWest on our successful application. He also acknowledged the importance of HikeWest’s work for hiking and its help toward achieving the government’s vision of creating a vibrant, inclusive, and connected WA community.

The improved funding opportunities and other benefits provided through this recognition will be a very welcome boost to HikeWest’s voluntary work of promoting and fostering hiking / bushwalking in WA.

We look forward to delivering another exciting WA Hiking Expo on 30 April next year. We will also be continuing our advocating on issues that impact on bushwalking and the natural environments we walk in.

Find out more about HikeWest on this site and how you could help us make WA an even better place for hiking / bushwalking!
